They've found lots of success with their sandwich residencies, particularly in the Grove House Tavern in Camberwell, but now sarnie kings Mondo Sando are getting ready to go it alone. Run by co-founders Jack Macrae and Viggo Blegvad, they're planning to open the standalone Cafe Mondo in Camberwell, with a Kickstarter going live to help with the launch.
The new place is billed as a sandwich cafe by day, with some of their hit sandwiches, like the Mondo Frango, BLT and their fish finger sandwiches on offer. Then, in the evening, they'll be adding more drinks and dishes to the mix. Those will include a chicken schnitzel, patty melt and aubergine fritti as well as a deep-fried treacle tart for dessert.
They'll be doing takeaways at the new location and there's also a big "secret garden" out the back. The Kickstarter to support the launch is due to start on 20 September. As they say, "We’ve always wanted to run a place where you can grab an amazing sarnie for lunch, make some bad decisions when the sun goes down, and do everything in between on the weekends. CAFE MONDO is our love letter to all the great spots you’ve stumbled upon, in all the best stories you’ve told."
If you're a fan of Mondo Sando at the Grove House Tavern, don't worry. That will be staying in place when they open Cafe Mondo, so beers and sandwiches will still be the order of the day there.
