John Lewis Opens Its Christmas Shop Early, With 119 Sleeps To Go

Christmas may still feel a little way off, but John Lewis is already getting us into the festive spirit. With 119 sleeps to go until Christmas Day, the retailer has officially opened its online Christmas Shop, and this year’s early launch comes as shoppers appear to be planning their celebrations earlier than ever.

Searches for “Christmas” on John Lewis reportedly jumped by more than 33% week-on-week immediately after the World Cup final, with festive interest arriving around three weeks earlier than it did in 2025. So, if you’re the type of person who likes to get your Christmas shopping sorted before December chaos kicks in, now might actually be the time to start.

Among the highlights this year is the Aylesford Super Pre-Lit Christmas Tree, which comes with more than 4,200 bulbs, making it John Lewis’s most sparkling pre-lit spruce yet. It’s designed to make decorating that little bit easier, particularly for anyone who would rather avoid the annual battle with tangled fairy lights.

Pre-lit trees are clearly having a moment, with 70% of John Lewis’s Christmas tree collection now pre-lit. Alongside traditional full-sized trees, the collection will include slimline and compact styles, as well as twig trees for adding festive touches to smaller spaces or creating that increasingly popular multi-tree look.

The Indoor/Outdoor Pre-Lit Twig Tree is another standout, offering a more understated way to bring a little Christmas sparkle into your home. It could also work particularly well as an additional tree, allowing you to decorate different corners of your home rather than putting all the festive pressure on one hero tree.

When it comes to decorations, John Lewis is embracing a playful, nostalgic feel. A charming collection of felt animal decorations will celebrate the people and personalities that make the department store what it is, including whimsical characters inspired by its Partners. Expect everything from a glamorous beauty-counter cat to a bakery-loving hedgehog.

And if you like your Christmas tree decorations to have a little more personality, the retailer’s collection of six adorable yetis could be worth a look. Each character has its own name inspired by words associated with wild or wintry weather, and the yetis will be available both as baubles and as super-soft toys.

For those already thinking about Christmas with children, Santa’s Tea Parties will also return to selected John Lewis stores. This year, the experience will include storytime with Santa and his elves, hot chocolate, festive treats and a special gift from Plus-Plus, making it one for the Christmas calendar.

Of course, John Lewis has plenty more festive pieces arriving across its Christmas collection, from decorations and trees to gifting ideas and those little finishing touches that make a home feel magical in December.

Cydney Ball, Head of Christmas as John Lewis (and Mrs Clause to us) says: “We are absolutely thrilled to officially launch our Christmas shop online. This year, we’re helping customers craft a truly magical home, from trees adorned with heirloom-inspired decorations to thoughtful, curated gifting. My personal favorite? Our enchanting collection of felt mice! Whether they are inspired by nostalgic past times, festive treats, or iconic pop culture figures, these charming characters are the perfect way to add a touch of whimsy and wonder to your tree.”

And there’s a rather impressive scale to the retailer’s Christmas plans. John Lewis forecasts that it will sell enough Christmas trees to create a forest covering around 25 acres, while its baubles could form an unbroken line from Central London to Paris. Its Christmas lights, meanwhile, could stretch from London to Edinburgh, with almost 30 miles left over.

So, while it might feel slightly strange to be thinking about Christmas while summer is still fresh in our minds, the early launch could be good news for anyone who likes to shop ahead. Whether you’re after a statement tree, a quirky decoration or a special gift, getting your favourites early could help avoid the dreaded “out of stock” message when December finally arrives.
