Mallow Elevates Vibrant Plant-based Menu with International Inspiration

Mildred’s, Mallow’s sibling, has made quite the name for itself as one of London’s best. Coincidentally, it also happens to be plant-based. While traditionally the two may not have gone hand-in-hand, the immense focus dedicated to plant-based innovation has transformed the cuisine into one of 5-star flavours and quality. Mallow is no exception, and may just provide a new, delectably soaring benchmark for this corner of the industry.

Cooked up by the city’s best, Winter newcomer Mallow has merged a plant-based mindset with international influences to its flavours in unique and inspired ways. With menu items that include Almond Feta, Banana-blossom Tacos, and Kumquat Meringue Pie, it is hard not to be intrigued.

Mallow also offers a great cocktail menu featuring Blackberry & Rosemary Margarita, and non-alcoholic Spiced Macha Colada.

Aside from the food and drink flavours, the new hotspot is also about minimal waste, sustainable suppliers, and an immersion in the local community. Adjacent to Borough Market, Mallow effectively serves as an extension to the stalls, incorporating many seasonal flavours and fresh ingredients directly from its neighbours.

The menu is broken down into small plates and large plates, perfect as courses or as sharing portions for a group – the latter having the significant benefit of covering as much of the magnificent menu as possible!

The Plum Plant-chicken Burger is our key menu highlight. It comes with daikon, chilli sesame mayo, and fries (which you can substitute for root fries), and is spectacular in its own right. The texture and taste can easily be mistaken for fresh, succulent chicken packed with flavour and perfectly seasoned, and the dish comes together perfectly with its sides and rich dip.

The Market Thali is also a great choice, made up of masala market vegetables, kiri hodi, red lentil dahl, pumpkin methi pickle, chana basmati, and flatbread – and is a whopping portion of Indian deliciousness and variety of flavours to explore.

And if there’s any room for afters, the Crème Brulee with Pear, Fig, and Brown Sugar Tuille, Carrot Cake Sticky Toffee with Cream Cheese Mousse, and Campfire Marshmallow (cameras out!) really do spoil for choice.

The sleek interiors over two floors offer nooks with their own characters, from the luxuriously comfortable glam upper floor bar area that’s perfect for an exclusive birthday gathering to the colourful lower floor that’s perfect for a sunlit brunch by the market. Did we not mention Mallow also does a fabulous brunch too? It’s those magic words that make this a true London all-rounder.

We expect Mallow to exceed the trajectory of Mildred’s popularity – its raving reviews so far are far from overstated! Whether you’re looking for London’s newest up-and-coming hotspot, aspiring for a full-on Veganuary, or simply crave a fulfilling, tantalisingly tasty, and globally inspired meal, Mallow should be your next stop.

You can find Mallow at 1 Cathedral Street, Borough Market, London SE1 9DE.
