This summer, Bodega Argento brings the sizzling heat of Argentina to the heart of the West End in the shape of a three-month pop-up that’s taking over The Rooftop at London’s iconic Hippodrome Casino. Last week, it hosted sunset drinks to celebrate the Summer Solstice, showcasing its aromatic wines and impressively mouth-watering menu that’s here to stay for the season.
For wine-lovers and casual sippers alike, this is one to pay attention to. The collaboration with leading Organic Argentinian winemakers Bodega Argento has brought over an outstanding selection of ice cold roses, fresh fruity reds, and light zesty whites, as well as a specially created frosé that has been a consistent patron favourite (and ours!) since its launch.
The 2021 bottles have been handpicked by The Hippodrome’s Head of Wine, Salvo Russo, who brings together a lifetime of passion for wine and a flair for fine dining and hospitality through this venture. The Italian sommelier partners with Ioannis Grammenos, Greek Executive Chef of Heliot Steak House and deservedly titled ‘Meatologist’, who provides a delicious array of top-quality bites, including cheese quesadillas, prawn tempura, and signature selections from the Hippodrome’s menu including its infamous steak sandwich and USDA beef sliders.
Through their offerings, the pair have masterfully satisfied the delicate balance between the casual early evening tipplers and onward explorers seeking to dive headfirst into Argentina’s grape and culinary delights. It’s a meticulous formula that guarantees that everybody leaves with their appetites quenched.
If you haven’t paid a visit to this iconic London landmark, this is really the perfect excuse to do so. The sunken rooftop shields away the chaos from Leicester Square beneath, creating a leafy, open-aired oasis in the heart of one of the Capital’s busiest patches. Though with this latest pop-up, you may find yourself 7,000 miles away from its noise, and with an unexpected urge to dance the Tango well into the night.
