John Lewis Introduces Top Design Collaborations at SS22 Press Day

SS22 for John Lewis is captivating. The collection exudes a luxurious yet blissfully airy aesthetic, along with impressive statements of strong design ready for the return of memorable celebration. Indeed, it also celebrates skilful collaborations with big industry names, including Alice Temperley & Matthew Williamson, as well as incorporating loved wardrobe & household staples. Together, it captures the essence of John Lewis flawlessly.

John Lewis press days always excite me. Other than snacking on delicious Waitrose treats while quietly plotting my stunning new JL wardrobe and house revamp for the upcoming season, I eagerly await the inevitable ‘wow’ factor in each display that will have me adopt the role of walking advertisement for JL&P for the foreseeable future.

Floral dresses lie at the forefront of the summer offering, in response to the 85% uplift in searches for dresses on johnlewis.com versus this time last year.

Of course, the SS22 collection does not disappoint. It merges a real taste of the outdoors (or more aptly, the ‘Countryside Revival’), with a universally modern, back-to-real-life energy with pieces that wouldn’t be out of place at an intimate picnic, or at a grand Jubilee celebration.

Accessories are key in the new collection. This neutral own-brand piece features an impressive patterned strap and an attractive black lining, making it a perfect accompaniment for any occasion.

The new offerings are heavily inspired by nature, and blur the line between the once polarised town and country divide. The Somerset by Alice Temperley collection currently celebrating its 10th successful year, is a perfect example of this. It features classic Temperley romantic silhouettes, voluminous puff sleeves, bold prints, and cross-season staples designed to be part of the forever wardrobe.

Alice Temperley describes the launch as “A quintessential wardrobe for Summer – with a nostalif nod to holidays gone by”.

The new collections also touch upon the ‘back-to-business’ element of current life, with sleek, professional officewear that refuses to relinquish the comfort, or quite frankly the stylishness, of the home wardrobe with the personal touch.

But it’s not just the fashion – John Lewis also masters the flexible way of living when it comes to furniture, aiming to perfectly revamp the home into a multi-purpose space to suit the new, improved mindset. ‘The Scandi Edit’ collaboration with influencer, author, and interior stylist Reena Simon includes home must-haves, from the Gondola Rattan Armchair, Parawood Oak Floor Lamps, and our favourite piece, the Oak Effect Desk Fan, which sits both as a practical desk addition and stylish flair for the home office.

The Oak Effect Desk Fan retails at only £45, and is predicted to be hugely popular as we approach the warmer months.

Arguably the most exciting development, however, is the John Lewis partnership with interior design icon Matthew Williamson. In the largest designer homeware collaboration for both the brand and the designer alike, the collection includes 90 products, from cushions and bedding to lamps and mirrors.

With elegant tones and vibrant confidence, the pillows are unambiguously Matthew Williamson.

It’s difficult to pick just one standout item – though the peacock throw is a close contender. Powered by visuals from the great outdoors, the collection is colourful and eclectic, and sparks joy and bold creativity. The ingenious Williamson mark is unmistakable.

A cohesive collection, full of effortless style and buzzing energy – a real reflection of the John Lewis and Matthew Williamson names.

John Lewis & Partners has done itself a great justice with this SS22 collection. From the partnership with one of the most creative of British interior designers, to the quintessentially British summer wardrobe staples, to even the own-brand handbag offering that rivals the top-tier, there is a lot to discover already in store and online. And the best part – there’s much more coming up.
